Enhanced Push Delivery

May 10, 2019

Push notifications are an essential engagement and communication tool in the armory of any mobile marketer. But what happens when users opt out? Or if certain devices negatively affect the deliverability of your push notifications?

Then you can use a special feature of the CleverTap platform: enhanced push delivery.

What is Enhanced Push Delivery?

Enhanced Push Delivery is a feature within CleverTap that enhances the deliverability of push notifications to devices that did not receive them.

When this feature is activated, the system does two things:

  1. Your push campaigns are retried as is (when the device is suppressing your notification), and
  2. Your push is retried using App Inbox, (when the user has activated “Do Not Disturb” on push notifications). App Inbox is a unique feature within CleverTap that allows users to read notifications at their own convenience in a persistent messaging system.

End result: your push reaches more users. And you can check for yourself how it boosts your delivery numbers in your push campaign stats page.

How Enhanced Push Boosts Delivery

Certain device manufacturers have built restrictions into their device operating systems to kill or restrict background processes. On Android, this effectively cuts off the device from receiving push notifications via the Google Cloud Messaging (GCM) or Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) service since the FCM needs to maintain an idle socket connection from the device to Google servers in order to work.**

Enhanced Push Delivery is able to bypass this by retrying the send or using App Inbox as a fallback method to ensure that the message is delivered to the device.
